Owners Leinebjørn AS has ordered a new 67,50 m Purser / Trawler at Karstensen Shipyard. The vessel is scheduled for delivery 15 May 2012.

Ownership consists of brothers Andreas and Kurt Leine, who took over the family run business in 1997, and had the present “Leinebjørn” built in 2001. The owners are working a combined trawl- and purse net fisheries, with trawling mainly focused on blue whiting west  of Ireland. Other species being targeted are mainly herring and mackerel, which are caught in the purse net. The new vessel will be operating according to same principles.

It can be noted, that the Leine-family has owned a “Leinebjørn” since 1901, so it is two long-established companies, that will be working together on this new project, as Karstensen Shipyard was founded in 1917, and is still in the ownership of the Karstensen-family.

The new vessel will have an overall length of 67,50 m, a beam of 13,50 m and depth to shelter deck of 8,80 m.

RSW-cooling machinery (2 x 945 kW) and unloading system, together with control system will be supplied by MMC.

Karstensen Shipyard are delighted with this new contract, which only emphasizes the yards position in building of larger fishing vessels in Scandinavia. The quality of the Karstensen-vessels are noted and appreciated by not only costumers but also sub-contractors. In addition the yard offers a service and attention , which historical seen results in long-standing continuous relationships with the costumers.

NEWBUILDING NO. 417 "PAULA"                                                                             20.09.2011
Owners Doyle Fishing Company Ltd has ordered a new 62,60 m Pelagic Trawler at Karstensen Shipyard. The vessel is scheduled for delivery 1 November 2011.

Ownership consists of the Doyle family of Killybegs, Ireland, headed by Michael (Mick) Doyle. The vessel is named after Mrs Doyle, who is also a director in the company.

Mick Doyle is well-known and long established owner/skipper in the Irish pelagic fleet. Mr Doyle took delivery of his first new-built vessel (“Venture”) in 1971. This vessel followed predecessors ”Primula” and ”Marie Avril”. Skipper Doyles fourth command and second newbuilding was “Paula” in 1980, followed by another “Paula” in 1994. Mr Doyle retired from sea several years ago, leaving the helm in the capable hands of Tom Doyle (not related), who will also be in command of the new vessel. Onboard is also Mr Doyles son, Michael, who is currently training for his skippers ticket.

The owners are working a traditional pelagic trawl fishing, with mackerel and horse mackerel being main species of target. The new vessel will be operating according to same principles.

The new vessel will have an overall length of 62,60 m, a beam of 12,80 m and depth to shelter deck of 7,80 m. The vessel will be very similar in design to yard number 415 “Gollenes”.
Main engine will be a Caterpillar C280-12, at 3000 kW, similar to Caterpillar engine on existing “Paula”. Gearbox and propeller plant (ø3800 mm) will be supplied by Scana Volda. Auxiliary engines will also be supplied by Caterpillar.

Deck machinery; winches and cranes will be supplied by Karmøy Winch.

Karstensen Shipyard are delighted with this new contract. The yard has a long standing connection with Irish owners, having built a total of 8 pelagic vessels to the Killybegs fleet. In addition another 2 Karstensen built vessels has been purchased second-hand, and are now Irish registered. All of the above mentioned deliveries are now also regular costumers in the shipyard for maintenance jobs. Obviously this has been noted by Mr Doyle who draw the conclusion that “it cant be all bad what they are doing in Skagen, since the vessels keeps going back ”…
